Privacy Policy for Trajectory
Trajectory is a personal cashflow forecasting and budgeting application published by Tangential Systems Limited, a company registered in New Zealand (NZBN 9429053713735) ("we", "us"). This policy explains how Trajectory handles your information.
Information we collect
We collect nothing. Trajectory has no user accounts, no registration, no login, and no backend service. We do not operate any server that receives your data, and we have no technical means of accessing what you enter into the app.
Information stored on your device
The information you enter into Trajectory is stored locally on your device only, in a private application database. This includes:
- Bank account names and balance entries you record
- Recurring income, expenses, budgets and transfers
- One-off transactions and their categories
- Debt and loan accounts, purchases, repayments and credit limits
- Scenarios and application settings
This data is held in your device's private app storage, which other applications cannot read. It is never transmitted off your device by Trajectory. If you uninstall the app, this data is deleted by the operating system.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
Trajectory contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party tracking software of any kind. We do not use cookies or advertising identifiers, and we do not build any profile of you. No third party receives information about your use of the app.
Biometric authentication
If you enable the optional app lock, Trajectory asks your device's operating system to verify your identity using your fingerprint, face, PIN or pattern. This check is performed entirely by the operating system. Trajectory never receives, processes or stores your biometric data or device passcode — it is told only whether the check succeeded or failed.
Exporting and importing your data
Trajectory can export your data as a ZIP archive containing CSV files, one per table. This only ever happens when you explicitly request it. The archive is written to Trajectory's private cache and then handed to your device's standard sharing or file system, and where it goes from there is entirely your choice. We do not receive a copy and have no visibility into exported files.
Trajectory can also import an archive it previously exported. You choose the file through your device's own file picker, and Trajectory can read only the single file you select — the app does not request broad access to your device's storage. The archive is read and processed entirely on your device.
Please note that once an archive has left the app, it is no longer protected by the app's storage restrictions or app lock, so treat it with the same care as any other financial document.
Permissions
Trajectory requests biometric permissions solely to provide the optional app lock described above. The app declares network access because of the framework it is built on, but Trajectory makes no network requests. The build also explicitly blocks the permissions for external storage access, drawing over other apps, and vibration, so the app cannot use them.
Security
Your data is protected by the Android application sandbox, which prevents other installed applications from reading Trajectory's storage, and — where you enable it — by the app lock. Trajectory does not add an encryption layer of its own on top of the operating system's protections. Because no data is ever transmitted, there is no transmission for us to secure.
Links out of the app
Where Trajectory offers a link to this policy or to our support email address, tapping it hands the address to your operating system, which opens your browser or mail app. Trajectory does not fetch anything itself. Your browser then makes an ordinary web request to our website, which sees it the way it sees any visit (see the note on website analytics at the end of this page). Nothing about your Trajectory data is included in that request.
Data sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, rent, share or disclose your information, because we never receive it. There is no data for us to hand to any third party, advertiser, or purchaser of our business.
Children's privacy
Trajectory is a general-purpose personal finance tool intended for adults and is not directed at children. Because we collect no data from anyone, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Because your data never leaves your device, you retain complete control of it at all times. You can view, edit or delete any entry within the app, and you can remove all of it by uninstalling Trajectory. There is no request you need to make of us to access or erase your data, and no account for us to close.
We are subject to the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. If you believe we have handled personal information improperly, please contact us first using the details below. You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom: because no personal data is transmitted to us or processed by us, we do not act as a controller or processor of the information you hold in Trajectory. It remains under your control on your own device.
If you are in the United States: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under state privacy laws, and we do not process it for targeted advertising.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, note it within the app. If Trajectory ever adds a feature that transmits data off your device, we will update this policy before that feature is released.

A note on this website, as distinct from the app: tangentialsystems.com uses cookieless, aggregate visit analytics, which record page views without cookies, advertising identifiers, or any profile of you. That applies to this page. The Trajectory app itself contains no analytics of any kind.
